(WKBN) – Heavy rains Friday caused some localized flooding across the Valley.
Water from a creek in the Poland Woods rose all the way up to the bridge. Poland Councilman Sam Moffie sent us pictures of the flooding.
Lisbon Canfield Road in Leetonia is currently closed between State Route 344 and Franklin Square. Officials say anyone who drives through the flooded roadway will be ticketed.
A car got stuck on Shady Run Road in Youngstown after water flooded the street near the Byzantine Center at the Grove. Water was up to the top of the car’s wheel wells and the driver was waist deep in water. A tow truck company had to help pull him out.
Also on Shady Run Road, on the side street next to Gino’s Drive-Thru off of Midlothian Boulevard, a portion of the road was closed nearly all day. Many cars had to turn around and go in a different direction.
Director of Public Works Chuck Shasho explained why the road frequently floods.
“I don’t know that it’s gotten to this extent. We did get quite a bit of rain. I think what’s been going on here, there’s been a lot of material that’s been washed down the hillsides and it’s gotten inside the culvert and it has traveled down into the culvert where we can’t get it out,” he said.
Shasho said there are plans to start fixing the problem as early as next week.
Crews also had to clear a small section of Dewey Avenue in Youngstown after a tree fell into the street.
Ponding water was also reported in other areas, like along Indianola Avenue in Youngstown and Market Street in Boardman.
Also in Boardman, part of Western Reserve Road was covered in water, but cars continued to slowly drive through it.
Shasho wanted to remind everyone that it’s not safe to drive your cars through this type of flooding or ponding.
