Polish festival celebrates with pierogis, polka in Austintown


The event is near St. Anne Church on Kirk Road

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Food, games and fun can be expected at the 11th Annual Polish Day in Austintown.

The celebration is put on by Polish Youngstown and Simply Slavic to celebrate the heritage and culture.

Aundrea Sika Heshchmeyer works for Polish Youngstown and she says their goal today is to inform.

“We try all the time to be teaching. If you walk by even the restrooms are in Polish and English. Every chance there is to learn. If all you go home with today is one new polish word we’re happy about it.”

The day will start with Mass at 11:30 a.m. Sunday and will continue until 6 p.m.

There will be polka bands, educational workshops, speakers, a pierogi eating contest and other events.

The event is near St. Anne Church on Kirk Road.
