Sweeney & Lisbon poised to reach the top of EOAC

It’s hard to believe 11 years ago, Lisbon was embarking on a season where they didn’t register a single victory (0-21). For the 5th time in as many years, Lisbon completed the hoops campaign with a winning record at 13-11. For the 4th year in a row, the Blue Devils averaged over 59-points per game. The Blue Devils return Justin Sweeney for his senior season.

Lisbon returns 3 starters (Brice Blackburn, Ryan McCullough, Justin Sweeney) in addition to another letter winner (Nick Mundy). Sweeney has been an elite scorer for the Blue Devils. As a sophomore, he averaged 19.2 points and just last year (as a junior) he bumped that figure up to 25.3 points per game. Sweeney also led the team in assists (3.7) and steals (2.6) as well as field goal percentage (45.6%) and finished second on the team in rebounds (7.8) and free throw shooting (75.0%). McCullough, as a freshman, put together a strong stat line of 10.3 points, 4.2 boards and 1.8 assists while shooting a team-high 38.5% from long distance (37-96). Blackburn averaged 2.8 points and 2.1 rebounds a year ago. Logan Bell is back as well. The team will also look to incoming varsity players such as Blayne Brownfield, Kaden Crawford, Michael Davis, Randy Felton, Joey Fisher and Adam Spencer to give them depth and to contribute.

Area of Concern

“We’ll look to break in some new varsity players early,” says coach Huckshold. “These young guys will have to hit the ground running. Right now, we lack experience, rebounding and (many) scoring options.” The loss of Brandon Brownfield is felt throughout the program as he finished second in scoring (14.8 ppg), three-point shooting (36.7%) and steals as well as topping the Lisbon team in rebounding (8.4) and free throw percentage (77.9%).
