Holding onto a 3-point lead entering the final quarter (55-52), McDonald fell to Waterloo – 70-59. The Vikings outscored McDonald in the final stanza 18-4. Waterloo’s quartet of Caleb Francis (17), Max Adelman (17), Joe Ward (16), and Vaughn Dorsey (12) combined to score 62 points. Ward scored 8 of the team’s 18 points in the fourth quarter.
Last year, McDonald defeated Waterloo in their two outings by a total score of 176-88.
Zach Rasile – who scored 40 and 43 last year against the Vikings – tallied 39 points which included 6 three-point baskets. Jake Portolese added 9 and Josh Celli scored 7. McDonald finished the game by making just 6 of 16 free throw attempts (37.5%).
Waterloo will hit the road again on Friday when they meet Lowellville. McDonald will look to right the ship in three days when they play at unbeaten-Springfield.
