MINERVA, Ohio (WKBN) – Drew Clark’s 2-run triple in the top of the sixth inning gave Springfield their first of two games today over Minerva, 8-5. Clark’s triple scored both Brannon Brungard and Chris Thompson. Jarrett Orbin led the Tigers’ bats with 3 hits and a pair of RBIs.
Mitch Seymour closed out the contest on the hill for the Tigers by tossing the final two innings and striking out 2 to post the win.
Alex Kimble finished the game with 2 hits and scored three runs for Minerva.
In the second game, Chris Thompson finished his day with 4 hits and drove in 2 runs as Springfield rolled up 14 to win 14-9. The Tigers trailed 5-2 entering the fourth inning before outscoring the Lions – 12-4 – over the game’s final four innings. Aaron Groner had a bases clearing double to drive in three runs to tie the game at 5. Springfield finished with 16 hits. Drew Clark took the win as he pitched 4 1/3 innings, striking out 2 and allowing 3 hits.
The Tigers have won 7 of their last 8. On Monday, Springfield will host Jackson-Milton at 5 pm. The Lions will welcome Crestview on Monday as well.
