Akron, OH (WKBN) – The South Range softball team fell, 8-3 to Wheelersburg Saturday in the Division III State Championship game.

The Pirates jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the 2nd inning, followed by three in the 3rd to make it a 5-0 game. But South Range answered in the 5th with a 3-run home run from Felecia Gaeta to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Wheelersburg countered with 3 more runs in the 6th inning and closed the deal from the circle with Faith Howard, who recorded 5 strikeouts, along with just 5 hits allowed.

Caragyn Yanek went the distance for the Raiders, giving up 13 hits and 8 earned runs, along with one strikeout. The Raiders generated 5 hits, led by Gaeta, who went 2-3 with 3 RBI.

South Range finishes the season with the most wins in school history (30-4), along with their first trip to the State Tournament and championship game.
