Poland’s defense came through when it mattered most in a 69-57 overtime win over Chaney Saturday in a Division II District Final at Boardman High School.
A back and forth game was tied at 52 at the end of regulation. But head coach Ken Grisdale came up with a defensive plan that shut down the Cowboys in the extra period. Poland outscored Chaney, 17-5 in overtime to secure another District Championship.
Daniel Kramer poured in a game-high 32 points for the Bulldogs, while fellow senior Braeden O’Shaughnessy scored 22 points.
Chaney was paced by Sharrod Taylor with 20 points for the Cowboys.
With the win, Poland advances to play Akron Buchtel next Wednesday at Regionals. Tipoff set for 8 PM at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.
