WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Howland defeated higher-seeded teams (Struthers and Ursuline) on their way to playing for the district championship last season. The Tigers must replace standout Anthony Massucci (20 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 4.0 apg) as well as Gabe Badea (6.1 ppg, 5.8 rpg) and Bobby Sullivan (4.6 ppg) among others due to graduation.

Howland welcomes back seniors Ben Bronson (6.4 ppg), Connor Durig and David Manios (missed last year due to an injury) and junior Alex Henry (8.1 ppg, 3.3 apg).

“We have five seniors along with [junior] Alex Henry – who started every game last year at point guard,” indicates coach Dan Bubon. “This team should be able to compete in every game. We should contend for the AAC title and even though we [have] moved to Division 1, we’ll make as deep of a run as we can in March.”

Keep you eye on Brandon Null and Vasili Gentis – both seniors – and juniors John Perry and Landon Infante to make significant contributions to the team this year.

Bubon says, “This group is as well rounded on offense as any we’ve had. The area of concern right now is how this group will do defensively, rebounding margin and toughness. Our league on many nights turns into hand-to-hand combat. We have to be able to play that style when needed.”

The Tigers begin play against their old-rival Poland on November 29.
