FARRELL, Pennsylvania (WKBN) – What appeared to be a matchup made for Hershey between top ranked Farrell and Southern Columbia, the Steelers stumbled in the Western Final against Serra Catholic (27-18).

Farrell ended their season at 11-1 after outscoring the opposition last fall by an average of 41-points. During their season-long journey, Farrell won the District 10 crown for the sixth time in the last seven years by topping Wilmington (48-6).

Expectations doesn’t change in the 16121-zip code. “From year-to-year,” says coach Amp Pegues. “We [expect] to win the region then district then state title.”

Without the likes of Anthony Stallworth (2340 rushing yards), Trian Holden (785 passing yards), Omar Stewart Jr. (457 receiving yards), Taidon Strickland (104 tackles) and Anthony Jackson (72 tackles) as well as Jaiman Holden and Preston Williams – the cast will look different, but the culture and expectation remains the same.

Junior quarterback Kabron Smith completed 71.2% of his passes a year ago (37-52) while throwing for 612 yards. He’ll have one of the top playmakers in the area in Kylon Wilson at his disposal. Wilson caught 34 passes for an average of 19.4 yards per catch and scored 13 times through the air. On 11 carries, Kylon crossed the goal line 6 times.

“Kabron is a very smart and very athletic quarterback,” states Pegues. “He has great accuracy and throwing ability. Brandon Chambers is next up at running back. The offensive line is coming together, very big again this year as we average 6 foot 3 and 290 pounds.”

Up front for the Steeler defense, Marion Norris (62 tackles) and Malachi Owens (6 ½ QB sacks, 12 TFL) both return as well as Kien Wade (6 QB sacks). Zaire Thomas also is back in the fold after finishing the 2021 season second on the team in tackles (74). Kylon Wilson returns to his secondary spot where he intercepted a trio of passes.

Pegues likes what he has on the defensive side of the ball, “We can rotate a lot of guys. Our line and defensive backs are the core of the [unit.”

Farrell opens the 2022 season by hosting North East on Friday, August 26.
