CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – Last year, Canfield fell to Dover in week two by a touchdown (21-14) then ran off ten consecutive wins before falling to the eventual state champion, Chardon, 27-14.

Over the last seven years, the Cardinals have won 65 of their eighty games to produce a winning percentage of 81.3%.

Coach Mike Pavlansky says, “The seniors are doing a great job picking where last year’s senior class left off. Their leadership over the wintertime has been great.”

Senior quarterback Broc Lowry is back after tossing 17 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions in 201 passing attempts (130 completions) while throwing for 1921 yards. Lowry also ran for 871 yards and 13 scores.

The offense will be without such standouts as Mike Crawford (609 rushing yards, 14 TDs), Drew Carrocce (34 catches, 461 yards), Oliver Kovass (28 catches, 460 yards), Paolo Papalia (300 receiving yards) as well as linemen Nick Bowen.

Lining up at running back this summer will be Dom Marzano, Caden Kohout, Ryan Schneider as well as juniors Scottie Eaton and Danny Inglis. At wide receiver, the Cardinals will be led by a quartet of seniors Jack Davis, Jack Fabry, Gavin Ramun (9 catches) and Drew Rosteck to go along with juniors Paul Bindas, Anthony Mazzella and Jake Schneider.

Senior AJ Murphy returns to anchor the front five on offense. “Our line will need to continue to improve on last year’s performance,” states Pavlansky. “Our goal this summer is to create depth up front.”

The defense welcomes back a fierce front seven led by seniors Dom Marzano (64 1/2 tackles, 4 QB sacks), Hunter Kanotz (33 tackles, 4 QB sacks) and Caden Kohout (38 tackles).

“We’ll be looking to add depth along the defensive line,” points out Pavlansky. “We’ve moved Danny Inglis (14 1/2 tackles) to an inside linebacker position. We’ll need to find depth at outside linebacker. The secondary will see three new starters as [Broc] Lowry is the only returning starter.” It’ll be a competition to keep an eye on this summer as several players will be seeking playing time (Nicolo Cocca, Jack Davis, Jack Fabry, Gavin Ramun, Evan Williams, Paul Bindas, Scottie Eaton, Mike Malkovits, Anthony Mazzella, Jake Schneider).

Canfield, returning twenty-three letter winners, will open in Beloit for a showdown with West Branch on Friday, August 19.
