Girard & Hubbard lock horns once again; Regional title on the line

Sports

Well, it all comes to this. Hubbard and Girard – a pair of schools who are each moving to the Northeast 8 conference – have been two of the most exciting teams to watch this fall in the area. Now, they must face one another again to decide who will be the Region 13 Champion – a feat that neither school has been able to accomplish. The site will be Niles’ Bo Rein Stadium on Saturday night – a location that is within 12 miles of each high school.

Girard’s formidable offense was able to generate 608 total yards of offense in their last outing against top seeded Perry. In fact, the only time this year that the Indians have been held below 400-yards of offense was in a 50-point win over Jefferson back in week 5. The conductor at the controls is senior Mark Waid. He’s completed 68.1% of his passes (218-320) for 3636 yards and 43 touchdowns (5 INTs). Waid also leads the team in rushing with 1232 yards on 162 carries (7.6 average) and 18 scores on the ground. He’s completed 6 or more touchdown strikes to 5 different receivers and thrown for 450-yards or more to 5 receivers as well.

In the Indians’ week 2 loss to Hubbard, Waid was intercepted 3 times – something which hasn’t happened to #7 in his high school career.

In Hubbard’s two playoff games, the Eagles have ran for an average of 365 yards and scored 8 times on the ground. Hubbard’s elusive quarterback (and Bowling Green commit) Davion Daniels has thrown for 1,000-yards (1107) and also rushed for 1000-stripes (1561) as well. Daniels’ completion percentage is off the chart (74.8%) and his yards per carry average is astonishing (10.0 ypc) also. His favorite receiving target has been Jayquan Odem – who’s caught 45 balls for 636 yards (9 TDs). The defense has forced 29 turnovers including 8 interceptions by Odem and 6 by junior Cam Resatar.

Has things changed much since Hubbard’s 16-point win over Girard 78 days ago? We’ll all find out.
