Saturday, a former NFL player and Valley football standout returned home for his annual football camp.
Chaney High School graduate Brad Smith was over at YSU’s Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS) for the 11th annual Brad Smith True Foundation Football Camp and Chalk Talk.
The free camp was for kids ages 7-18 who got some instruction from current and former professional athletes and top area high school and performance coaches.
Both boys and girls were able to learn the basic fundamentals of football.
Smith says he loves coming home to spread an important message.
“Seeing them come back each year and seeing the emails, seeing them go to college and play in college, notes from the parents. You know, after the camp they saw a difference in their kid, a different level of commitment, treating people different, that is the whole goal. Football is going to end for everyone, sports is going to end, but what type of man, what type of young lady are you going to be for the rest of your life? That is what we want to get done here,” Smith said.
The girls only Chalk Talk was a workshop aimed at teaching young women valuable life skills.
