Fighting Saints rally past Phantoms in game one of Clark Cup Quarterfinals

The Dubuque Fighting Saints tallied a pair of goals in the third period to secure a 3-1 win over the Youngstown Phantoms Monday night at the Covelli Centre in game one of the Clark Cup Quarterfinals.

Dubuque’s Dylan Jackson scored the go-ahead goal with 8:28 left in regulation. Bram Scheerer tied the game at 1-1, and later added an empty-netter for the Fighting Saints.

Brett Murray opened the scoring with a goal in the second period, giving the Phantoms a 1-0 lead.

Dubuque held the advantage in shots over Youngstown 24-9.

Chad Veltri finished with 21 saves for the Phantoms, while Matthew Thiessen finished stopped 8 of nine shots for the Fighting Saints.

Dubuque leads the series 1-0. Game two is set for Tuesday night at 7PM at the Covelli Centre. If necessary, game three would also be played at the Covelli Centre.
