Ericson’s strong outing helps lead Ursuline past Newton Falls

Emma Ericson had a strong outing in Ursuline’s season-opening 12-2 win over Newton Falls.

Ericson went six innings, allowing three base hits while striking out seven. She also hit two doubles.

Maris Barbato and Destiny Goodnight each had three hits apiece. Barbato had a triple.

Julia Nutter also had a triple and drove in four runs.

Gia Caldrone (2 RBIs) and Alyssa Sheely both had two hits as well.

Newton Falls posted their two runs in the top of the third inning on an Emily Knight RBI single (driving in Olivia Valot) followed by Tara Backherm’s double (which scored Knight).

The Tigers (0-1) will hit the road once more for their contest with Lakeview on Thursday at 5 p.m.

The Lady Irish will play at Fitch’s 911 Field on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
