District Track: East’s Bowers sets meet record in 100M, but Salem boys and girls claim team wins


SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown East senior Jahniya Bowers has been making history this year and that continued Saturday. 

The YSU commit set a new meet record in the 100 meter dash in the Division II District Meet at Reilly Stadium. She pulled away for the win with a time of 12.09 seconds. Bowers also won the 200 meter and anchored the 4×100 meter relay team which won as well. 

Despite a strong showing from the Golden Bears, the home team Salem Quakers claimed the top spots on the podium in both the girls and boys team standings. 

The Salem girls finished with 102 points and were paced by Carly Hall, who blew away the competition in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:10.56. 

The Salem boys also impressive, finishing with 121 total points.
