BROOKFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – Brookfield has posted a winning percentage of 76.6% over the past two seasons (36-11). The Lady Warriors have finished with just one losing season in their last nine campaigns.
Last year, during their first three playoff games, Brookfield outscored the opposition by an average of 38-points per outing before falling to Liberty (52-39) in the District title tilt.
Brookfield had defeated the Leopards earlier in the season on January 20 (53-46) behind a team effort. The Lady Warriors’ outrebounded Liberty, 36-27. They shot 81% from the foul line on 21 attempts (17-21) and held Liberty to just 28.6% on their field goals.
Senior Sophia Hook compiled a double-double for the season (15.2 ppg, 10.2 rpg). Hook closed out her junior campaign by accumulating 16 double-doubles.
“I expect her to keep playing at a high-level,” said coach Ken Forsythe. “She’ll keep making her team better. She is a special lady, that has all the tools. She’s one of the top players in the area for a reason, and she’ll continue to play like it, because she has a motor that doesn’t stop.”
She’ll be joined by her classmates Katie Gibson (3.5 ppg, 2.7 apg), Katie Logan and junior Kenzie Jumper (3.5 ppg). Cailey Wellman (8.5 ppg, 9.4 rpg), also a junior, will be looked upon to bring her toughness into the upcoming season. Wellman had seven double-doubles as a sophomore. Jasmine Hubbard, also a junior, returns as well.
The team must move on without Anna Reichart (5.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and Audrey Reardon (9.9 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 3.1 apg), who both graduated last spring.
Coach Forsythe points to, “We have a great tradition at Brookfield, and Anna and Audrey were huge pieces of things that we’ve done the last few years, they will be missed a lot. We have the girls that will step up and hopefully give us the same energy that those two gave on-and-off the court.”
Brookfield begins the new season with a matchup against Lakeview on November 22.
