Youngstown Police Department’s dog shot in Coitsville


COITSVILLE, Ohio (WKBN) – Coitsville Police are investigating the shooting of the Youngstown Police Department’s police dog.

According to Youngstown Chief Robin Lees, K-9 Goose and handler officer Josh Kelly live in Coitsville Township, where the incident occurred. They were off duty when a neighbor shot at Goose, he said.

Coitsville Police Chief Michael Morris said there is an investigation underway into where the dog was when it was shot. He said the neighbor felt threatened by it prior to the shooting, but Lees said a veterinary examination determined that Goose was shot from behind.

The dog is being treated and is expected to make a full recovery.

Goose is a newer K-9 to the city’s police department.
