TALLMADGE, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown State football player Martin Ruiz was arrested following a traffic stop in Summit County, three days after playoff win number two over Jacksonville State.

The police dash cam video begins shortly after midnight on Tuesday, December 6 in the 500 block of North Avenue in Tallmadge, a suburb of Akron.

What started as a turn signal violation would become something much worse.

Ruiz is facing firearms charges in Summit County after police said they found a loaded gun in the car’s glove compartment. Officers said they also found marijuana in the car.

The starting running back for the Penguins was only involved in one play during last Saturday’s playoff game.

Coach Bo Pellini isn’t commenting about player discipline ahead of the semifinal game with Eastern Washington on Saturday. He was questioned about reports that four to five players, including three starters, were suspended after drug testing.

WKBN 27 First News tried contacting Ruiz, but he hasn’t returned our call.
