Veterans Day is Saturday, Nov. 11, and there are many events in the Mahoning Valley honoring our veterans and active-duty military personnel:Saturday, Nov. 11:
A Time to Dance: Veterans and active duty military can come to A Time to Dance in Niles for free dance lessons. Private lessons will be given from 3-6 p.m. while group lessons will be held at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., followed by a Red, White & Blue-themed dance party that goes until 10:30 p.m. A Time to Dance is located behind the Pine Tree Plaza in McKinley Heights. Bob Evans: Bob Evans is offering veterans and active duty military personnel the choice of one of six free meals at all Bob Evans restaurants. Guests wishing to enjoy one free meal on Veterans Day must provide proof of service. Eligible identification includes a U.S. Uniformed Services (current or retired) ID, a current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) or a veteran’s organization card (American Legion or VFW, for example.) Guests wearing a military uniform on Veterans Day also are eligible.
Buffalo Wild Wings: The Boardman, Niles, Austintown and Alliance Buffalo Wild Wings will recognize Veterans Day with its “Wings for Heroes” promotion. Buffalo Wild Wings will provide a complimentary small order of wings – traditional or boneless – and fries to veterans and active duty military as a thank you for their dedication and service. Eligible guests who dine in at the restaurant during regular business hours will get the order of 10-12 wings and fries for free. Beverages, taxes and gratuity are not included. Proof of military service (military ID, a veteran’s card or photo in a military uniform) must be presented.
Champion Beach House: The restaurant is honoring veterans with a free kielbasa sandwich, a side of fries and a drink from noon until 8 p.m. Please bring a military ID for proof. Located at 4551 Mahoning Avenue, Warren, OH.
Creative Customs Tattoos and Piercings: Veterans Day Appreciation Sale: Tattoos starting at $20 and piercings for $10 for all military and veterans. The sale is for walk-in clients from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Customers must have a military ID, and 25 percent off will also be given to any tattoo appointment scheduled by a military member with a deposit for a future date.
Dunkin’ Donuts: Free donut for veterans and active duty military members. Must show military ID.
Eagle Creek Conservation Club: The club is hosting a pancake breakfast for veterans from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The breakfast is free and open to all veterans, active duty personnel, their spouses and minor children. There will also be free giveaways and raffles for service members. The clubhouse is located at 5525 Eagle Creek Road, Leavittsburg, OH.
Great Clips: All 10 area Great Clips locations will be open to offer all military veterans a free haircut. Those not able to their free service that day can stop in for a certificate to be used for another visit.
Handel’s: Participating Handel’s Ice Cream locations will give away a free single scoop regular or sugar cone to veterans and military personnel. No purchase is necessary, but a valid military ID must be presented.
Magic Tree Pub & Eatery: Free appetizer for all veterans and active duty military all day. Must present valid military ID.
O’Charley’s: Covelli Enterprises will salute those in uniform with free meals at O’Charley’s. The complimentary meal will be honored all day and includes either a $9.99 entrée or $10 toward any entrée of choice. Participating locations include Niles, Boardman, Cuyahoga Falls, Strongsville and Erie, Pa. To participate, service members and veterans need only wear their uniform or show their valid military ID or discharge papers.
Primanti Bros.: All active duty military and veterans can get a free classic size Primanti-style sandwich at any time during the day. Must show valid military ID.
Scratch restaurant: Veterans can eat for free from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Scratch restaurant. A military ID must be presented. Located at 130 S. Market Street, Lisbon, OH.
Sharon, Pa. parade: The annual Veterans Day parade will form at 12:15 p.m. at the Sharon American Legion on State Street and move out at 1 p.m.Sheetz: Free lunch for veterans all day on Saturday, Nov. 11. Veterans can get half of a turkey sub and a regular fountain drink with proof of service: U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement, Veterans Organization Card, photograph in uniform, DD214, Citation or Commendation.
Shop for Honor event: The Mahoning Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is holding “Shop for Honor!” — a Veterans Day fundraiser to support local veterans. Local independent sales consultants and craft vendors will be selling their products just in time for the holidays. The event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bethel Friends Social Hall, located at 2771 Spitler Road, Poland, OH.
Struthers Veterans Day Ceremony: A Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at the Struthers Veterans Memorial at 11 a.m. The ceremony’s guest speaker will be Senior Master Sergeant and Struthers High School Teacher Robert Zanni. Dr. Sandra J. Dibacco will serve as master of ceremonies. The public is invited to attend.
Superior Carr Wash: Superior Carr Wash will be giving a free car wash to all veterans and military personnel from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine. The car wash is located at 3760 North River Road NE, Warren, OH.
Texas Roadhouse: Texas Roadhouse invites all veterans (including active duty, retired or former) of the U.S. military to enjoy a free lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each Texas Roadhouse location across the country will participate. Veterans can choose one of 10 entrees, including a 6-ounce sirloin and two made-from-scratch sides plus a choice of any Coca-Cola product, iced tea or coffee during lunch. Guests must show proof of service such as a military or VA card, or discharge papers.
Quaker Steak & Lube: All military veterans and active-duty service members can receive a free or discounted meal by showing their military ID. Guests can contact their local Quaker Steak & Lube for information on the free or discounted meals available in their area. The restaurant will also honor fallen military heroes with Fallen Soldiers Tables set up at participating locations.All month:
Eat’n Park: All Eat’n Park restaurants are giving veterans 10 percent off their entire check when they show their military ID.
Toys ‘R Us: Starting Nov. 4, all service men and women currently in the military, reserves, dependents or retired will receive 15 percent off their total in-store purchase through Saturday, Nov. 11.
