WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – The United Way of Trumbull County kicked off its 2016 campaign Friday with a big announcement about the 2015 campaign.

General Motors told the agency that it would match every dollar donated by GM employees in Lordstown. This sent the total of donations collected in 2015 to more than $1 million — the first time that the United Way has collected that much since 2011.

The announcement was made during the United Way’s annual United Way at Work event. This year’s event will feature 28 properties belonging to seniors, veterans and people with handicaps.

United Way of Trumbull County President Ginny Pasha said the amount was a surprise to the organization.

“…We are all just so excited to have additional dollars for our community,” she said.

The United Way of Trumbull County has set a goal of collecting $930,000 in 2016.
