CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Sleep experts say that extra sleep on the weekends to offset lost hours during the week will not help in the long run.
“The whole notion of being able to catch up and sleeping more on the weekends to offset any curtailed sleep during the week is not really going to be that helpful, at least in terms of neurocognitive function, vigilance, drowsy driving, those sorts of things,” said Dr. Reena Mehra, a sleep expert.
If it can be avoided, do not lose sleep. Just one night of lost sleep can cause people to be less alert, have a cloudy memory and increase the chances for an accident.
