YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – New Year’s resolutions always sound good but aren’t usually the easiest things to keep up with.

For most people, it’s all about eating right and exercising.

Dr. Michael Sevilla from the Family Practice Center of Salem talked about some ways to keep up with your resolution this year.

He suggests for people to entrust in those who will help keep them accountable for their goals and to take things one step at a time to keep from quitting early.

If your goals are too extravagant, Sevilla said people are more likely to lose sight of their goals by February. He suggests to start small, whether it be drinking more water each day or exercising two times a week, then build up once it becomes a habit.

He also explained how diet fads don’t usually work, but eating more fruits and vegetables and eating in smaller portions tend to be a better weight-loss method. Planning your meals for the week also helps to keep you on track.

And of course, another piece of advice Sevilla gave was to strive to get your eight hours a sleep each night.
