LIBERTY TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – Police officers in Liberty began using handheld traffic cameras on Wednesday to reduce speeding in the township.

The new cameras will be used as a tool to enforce the speed limit on State Route 11, Belmont Avenue and Churchill Hubbard Road. They will also be used on Shady Road once school starts again in the fall.

Warning notices will be sent out for the first 30 days and on August 1, the department will start issuing tickets and fines. Citations will only be issued to drivers going 11 miles per hour over the speed limit, or 7 miles per hour over in a school zone.

Signs will be displayed along the roadways to let drivers know that speed cameras are being used.
