CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – A Cumberland County man is charged with killing his 10-week-old daughter.

Jason Bugajski, 31, of South Middleton Township, is charged with homicide, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and reckless endangerment regarding the infant’s death on March 28.

State police in Carlisle said Bugajski told them he violently shook the crying baby girl for five seconds because he wanted to go back to sleep. He said he then dropped the baby into her bassinet and continued to shake her but stopped when he noticed her head rolling around.

The baby’s mother found the girl unresponsive in the morning. Police were called to the home in the 200 block of Bonny Brook Road, and the infant was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy determined the child suffered a traumatic brain injury from blunt force trauma, a skull fracture, and other injuries consistent with abuse.

“The little I read about the autopsy so far, I mean, there were a lot of injuries here and, you know, a 10-week-old child and you’re treating it like that?” Cumberland County District Attorney Skip Ebert said.

Bugajski was placed in Cumberland County Prison and denied bail. A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for April 10.
