A lifelong wish has been fulfilled for one of Penn State Shenango’s original faculty members who passed away last week.
John Garell taught at Penn State Shenango for 33 years.
“I wanted to provide a way for talented students to receive a world-class education,” he said after he retired. “I am confident this scholarship will support students who need a little extra help.”
The John R. Garell Renaissance Scholarship — worth $30,000 — will be awarded to high-achieving students with the greatest financial need.
Campus Director and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Jo Anne Carrick is grateful to John for his contributions to the school and students.
“From the many things I’ve heard about John and his time spent at the Shenango campus, it is no surprise to me that he would want to continue his good work and support local students with great financial need,” she said.
Garell passed away on Friday at the age of 75.
