28,000 chickens dead in Pa. fire

A fire killed thousands of chickens in Berks County.

Flames broke out at a chicken house in Upper Bern Township Tuesday night. That’s about 50 miles north of Lancaster. 

There are conflicting reports of how many chickens were killed. Officials estimate about 28,000 poultry died in the fire. The chicken house held about 30,000.

No farm workers or firefighters were hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
