The FBI is trying to verify a teenager’s claim that he is a boy who went missing in 2011.
On Wednesday, the teen told authorities in Kentucky he is Timmothy Pitzen, the name of a missing Illinois boy.
The teen also said he escaped two kidnappers at a Red Roof Inn in Ohio and kept running.
People near Cincinnati called police when they saw the boy, who looked scared.
“He looked like he had been beat up. Yes, punched in the face a couple of times. He could see the fear on him, and how nervous he was, and how he kept pacing and he just looked odd,” Crekasafra Night said.
“It’s hard to remember people, to be honest, because so many people coming in and out,” said Kennedy Slusher, with guest services at the Red Roof Inn in Beechmont, Ohio. “To hear something like that, it’s kind of mind-blowing. It’s scary. We know the description of their vehicle and what at least one of them looked like so we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for that.”
Timmothy Pitzen was last seen in May of 2011 with his mother, who apparently committed suicide shortly after his disappearance. Police said she left a note, saying Timmothy was with people who would care for him.
FBI agents are now conducting a DNA test to confirm the teen’s claim.
The boy is currently getting medical care.
