Woman merges on Va. highway and ends up under trailer, no injuries reported

Both vehicles were stuck, blocking two of the westbound lanes for several hours

VIRGINIA BEACH. Va. (WAVY) -- Traffic was backed up on westbound I-264 near Independence the majority of Sunday morning for a vehicle accident.

Crews were initially dispatched for a disabled Dodge Ram hauling a camper with brakes that had locked up. On the way to the disabled truck, the call was upgraded to a crash.

State Police and Fire-Rescue crews arrived on scene shortly after 10:08 a.m. to find a Nissan Altima stuck underneath the disabled Dodge Ram that was pulling a camper.

Both vehicles were stuck, blocking two of the westbound lanes for several hours. The driver of the Nissan states that she was trying to slow down and merge, but ended up rear-ending the trailer and was pinned underneath.

The driver of the Nissan was on a phone call using her earpiece.

There were a total of five people involved. One woman occupied the Nissan Altima and four occupied the Dodge Ram. There were no injuries. All parties were insured.

No charges have been filed against either of the drivers.
