DEER LODGE, Tenn. (WATE) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is working with local authorities in Morgan County to investigate a deadly shooting involving a juvenile suspect.
The TBI announced Wednesday they are investigating the shooting death of a Morgan County man in conjunction with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.
Kevron Thomas ‘Tommy’ Durham, 56, was shot and killed Saturday in the Deer Lodge Community of Morgan County.
According to a report by the District Attorney’s Office, investigators believe Durham was involved in a domestic dispute with his wife when their 12-year-old child intervened with a loaded rifle. They say the juvenile fired two times, hitting Durham in the chest.
Durham died before emergency personnel arrived on scene.
“It appears that this is going to be a situation of the juvenile coming to the defense of his mother who was a victim in this and the other incidents of domestic violence,” said Morgan County District Attorney Russell Johnson.
“We are still looking at what we can do through juvenile court with the suspect. Our greatest concern at this point is that child’s wellbeing going forward in dealing with what has transpired, so we are leaving all of our options open in that respect.”
There were at least five different incidents of domestic violence reported at the residence, most recently this past August. None of the previous reports resulted in criminal charges being taken by the previous administration of the MCSO.
This is a developing story and we’ll continue to update the details as they become available.
