Article suggests photo filters have psychological impact on self perception

Technology may be messing with our perception of what we look like – and it’s all because of photo filters. 

From Instagram to Snapchat and apps made to beautify – there is no shortage of features to change how you look. 

But constantly changing your photos to show a slightly better version of yourself can have a psychological impact. 

A recent article in the Journal of the American Medical Association calls it “Snapchat Dysmorphia” and some say it can lead to body dysmorphic disorder – which is an excessive preoccupation with a perceived flaw in your appearance. 

It’s causing many to flock to plastic surgeons looking to be permanently transferred to match those doctored photos.
