HUBBARD, Ohio (WKBN) – Hubbard Fire and Police Departments responded to a multi-vehicle crash near the Pennsylvania state line late Saturday night.
The crash involved three semi-trucks, two of which flipped on their side.
“One vehicle that was in the right lane struck the vehicle in the left lane, causing both vehicles to hydroplane, cross the medians into the westbound lanes of traffic. As they did, they both overturned,” said Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Tom Homrighausen.
That’s when Homrighausen said another truck heading west tried to stop, but couldn’t, and broke open the trailer.
Highway Patrol stated that I-80 westbound was closed for a couple of hours at the Pennsylvania state line. They also released the names of the people involved in the crash.
The semi-truck that was traveling westbound on I-80 was 48-year-old William Judkins of New York. He was not injured.
The semi-truck that was in the left lane traveling east was 52-year-old Duane Borgelt of Beaverdam, Ohio. He was taken to the hospital along with 28-year-old James Van Norman of Magnolia, Mississippi. Norman was a passenger in Borgelt’s semi-truck.
The third semi-truck driver was 25-year-old Samuel Magee from Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was not injured in the accident but was issued a failure to control citation.
