LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) – Michael Davenport announced his withdrawal in the candidacy for the 6th Congressional district on Monday.

Davenport was a Democratic candidate for representative to Congress.

Bill Johnson, a Republican, is the current representative for the district.

The primary election will be held March 15th. According to Ohio law, Davenport will remain on the ballot.

The Columbiana County Board of Elections says a notice will be posted at each polling location and with each absentee ballot, informing voters that any votes for the withdrawn candidate will not be counted.

Democratic candidate Michael Lorentz remains in the campaign, and will face Johnson in the November general election.
