Man arrested after shots fired at Youngstown State University

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Youngstown State University student is incarcerated at the Mahoning County Jail, charged in relation to shots fired on YSU’s campus.

Casimier Mitchell, 19, is charged with improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Just after 2:50 a.m. Sunday, a YSU police officer heard shots fired near the Wick Avenue parking deck, where he was sitting in a police cruiser. Seconds later, a black Ford Mustang filled with three men who were laughing drove by the officer, according to a police report.

Police noted that no other vehicles or people were in the area, and the officer began an investigation into the vehicle and its occupants.

No further details were released Monday, as the incident is still under investigation.
