YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Wednesday was the first day of Youngstown State University’s English Festival.

The event is for students in grades 7 through 12.

Students read a selection of books selected by the committee prior to the event. The event offers a wide variety of activities related to the reading list.

Dr. Gary Salvner, co-chair of the event, said kids keep the festival alive.

“The excitement of the kids. I keep saying we’re going to keep this as long as the kids keep coming. There are about 200 schools that will be here over the next three days,” Salvner said.

The committee has already started planning next year’s festival.
