YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A program linking Youngstown State University and a local senior care business is expanding.
A new intergenerational learning center brings together YSU and Ohio Living Home Hospice and Health.
Organizers say students in nearly every department on campus will have the chance to work with local senior citizens groups through volunteer programs and internships, giving them hands-on experience to go with their education.
“But also, working with our seniors, back to our students and things that maybe they had a career in and being teachers and accountants and different professions like that,” said Sarah Hadley with Ohio Living.
Organizers say Ohio is one of nine states in the U.S. where at least 50 percent of the residents are older adults.
