Youngstown police will soon have some new cruisers as part of its front-line patrol fleet.
The department will be ordering a half dozen new Ford Explorers with the special “Police Interceptor” package to replace some of its older cruisers.
Chief Robin Lees said money for the new vehicles will come from funds raised through the use of radar speed cameras, which brought in about $1 million in extra revenue last year.
City leaders will be looking at how the state’s new transportation bill will impact the use of those cameras and the money they generate. The bill aims to cut funding for communities using those cameras.
