YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Turning blight into bloom is what the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) has been doing for the past eight years.
Wednesday, the organization celebrated a major milestone — the revitalization of its 100th home.
The home is on Rush Boulevard in Youngstown. YNDC gave it new life, refreshing the neighborhood around it.
Mary Danus is a neighbor, and she is happy to see the newly-revived home. She said more vacancy wasn’t the only thing that this home was attracting.
“If a home is vacant and if there’s any opening, critters find a home,” she said.
Danus said unattractive landscape was also an issue, making it a priority for YNDC to fix the home from the inside out.
Danus said everyone deserves a comfortable, clean, place to live, complete with a neighborhood welcoming them with open arms.
“Oh, I’m excited,” she said. “We’ve gotta get our welcome bag ready for our new neighbors.”
For this 100th homeowner, that’s exactly what they’ll get.
