Youngstown hiring someone to bridge gap between community and downtown events

Local News

Youngstown is now advertising for a new position to better connect city residents with the riverfront entertainment complex soon to be open downtown.

The complex includes the new amphitheater being built next to the Market Street bridge, an adjacent park and the Covelli Centre.

The position is called Community Engagement and Inclusion Coordinator. The person will work with city groups to build relationships and produce programs with city residents who, says Councilman Julius Oliver, sometimes feel left out.

“Right now, the sentiments of the city are…one of the Covelli Centre isn’t for the City of Youngstown. It’s for the outskirts. What we want to do is show them that this is yours. You’re welcome to it and we want to make them feel as if they have a say so in what goes on there.”

Oliver said the new position will not hinder big name acts from playing the complex, but help church groups and neighborhood associations use it as well.

The person will report to the newly-formed Community Engagement and Inclusion Initiative Committee and will also help JAC Management in operating the Covelli Centre and amphitheater.
