Youngstown police say a man with a gunshot wound was lying in the driveway of a home on W. Princeton Avenue, smoking a cigarette on Thursday morning.
A caller told police that he saw the victim, 42-year-old Darrell McCary, in the driveway after kids getting on the school bus were standing around him.
McCary told police that he had been shot at the corner of W. Princeton and Hillman Street and said he had been lying in the driveway for about six to eight hours, according to a police report.
He didn’t know who shot him.
A family member of McCary lives on W. Princeton and told police that McCary often walks to her house. She reported that he is developmentally-challenged, according to the report.
McCary was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the lower back. Police said most of the blood had dried by the time he got to the hospital.
Police said its ShotSpotter system didn’t pick up on any gunshots in the area, but around 5:15 a.m., there was a “metallic sound” detected on W. Princeton.
