Youngstown firefighters: Vacant building catches fire twice within 2 hours

Local News

A vacant building caught fire again Sunday evening on the city’s south side.

The first fire occurred at a building, which used to be the Soul Kitchen, on the corner of Hillman and Garfield streets around 5 p.m.

Youngstown Fire Chief John O’Neill said flames were shooting out of the first floor when they got there.

According to firefighters, the flames were extinguished, but the building caught fire again after they left the scene.

They were called back to the scene about one hour later, which O’Neil said is not enough time for the fire to reignite that intensely.

There were no injuries reported.

Firefighters are investigating the incident as a suspicious fire.
