A Niles man is facing kidnapping and domestic violence charges after his ex-wife told police that he attacked her and wouldn’t let her leave the home.

Tuesday, the woman came to the police station to file charges against 44-year-old Andrew Konsol, III.

She told police that he came to her house, assaulted her and wouldn’t let her leave to go to work. She said Konsol also took her rental car from her.

She told police that eventually, she was able to convince him to let her go to work, where she was able to meet with a friend and get medical attention.

Police said Konsol was found hiding in the bedroom closet of the house. The couple’s son was also in the house, according to a police report.

He was arrested and taken to the Trumbull County Jail.

Police noted in their report that conditions of the home were found to be deplorable, so the Health and Zoning Board were contacted.

Konsol was arraigned Wednesday in Niles Municipal Court, where bond was set at $100,000. A preliminary hearing was set for 9:45 a.m. Monday.

According to court records, Konsol has several past domestic violence charges.
