MIDDLETON TWP., Ohio (WKBN) — An 86-year-old woman has died after a fire in Middleton Township over the weekend.

Columbiana County Coroner’s investigator identified the victim as Carol Leslie.

Leslie was found after Negley firefighters were called for a fire at a house in the 11800 block of Leslie Rd. at 9:46 a.m. Sunday.

Middleton Township Fire Chief Kurt Todd said Leslie lived in a farmhouse on the property. Other family members who lived on the property nearby saw the fire and tried to get inside to save her but were unable to. They called 911 to report the fire.

The coroner is waiting on toxicology results to determine Leslie’s cause of death. Those results could take four to six weeks.

Todd said they believe the fire started in the bedroom where Leslie was found, but the house was heavily damaged so they aren’t sure about the origin at this time.

The State Fire Marshal was called in to investigate and a preliminary ruling is that the cause is undetermined, Todd said.

Seven fire departments were on the scene on Sunday.
