Winter coat giveaway for Columbiana County children held in Salem

Local News

The brand new coats were bought with a grant

SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) – On Thursday, children in Columbiana County had the chance to get a coat for the upcoming winter.

The Brightside Project in Salem had 200 coats ready to give out as part of the Coats for Kids event with Operation Warm. They were all brand new and came with a soup thermos.

They were bought with a grant.

The Brightside Project has done other distributions, but this was their first time for coats.

“We’ve had our distributions last year that they needed mittens and hats and gloves and they needed warmth. Just to be able to help them stay warm with a brand new coat, it means a lot to us,” said Scott Lewis, with the Brightside Project.

The Brightside Project is looking to do another coat giveaway next year if they receive another grant.
