WEATHERSFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – An investigation is underway after a mobile home caught fire early Tuesday morning in Weathersfield.

Yellow fire line tape remains on the mobile home that caught fire on Country Pines Drive. Besides a boarded up window and shattered glass on the driveway, on the outside, there doesn’t appear to be much damage. In fact, one neighbor didn’t even know there was a fire a few trailers down.

“It was just bright lights so I thought somebody had like, maybe a medical emergency and it was done, but watching the news today, it was like, surprise,” said Melody Anguish, who lives nearby.

The fire happened just after 4 a.m.

Weathersfield Fire Chief Tom Lambert says there was light smoke when firefighters arrived but inside, they found a fire in both a bedroom and hallway. The trailer had moderate damage.

Lambert says this fire is suspicious in nature and it remains under investigation.

“Because there was more than one fire in the home. So whenever there’s more than one fire, there’s more than one source. We always refer back to the state to get their opinion on, you know, the cause and origin of the fire,” he said.

Lambert says the man who lives there was taken to the hospital, where he’s still a patient.

At this point, how the fires started is unknown, but the state fire marshal’s office is looking into it.
