WATCH: What mental health professionals are doing to help students deal with grief

Local News

In light of Sunday’s fatal fire at a Youngstown home, classmates of one of the victims are also mourning with family and friends.

Aleysha Rosario was a fourth-grade student at Wilson Elementary.

Her class is learning to deal with their grief through art — they made posters for her to express their feelings.

Crisis counselor Stacy Armstrong explained the process schools take when faced with these types of situations.

On a school district level, she said members of the counseling team go to the affected school and meet with administration and the counselors and social workers assigned to that school to decide what actions to take.

Then, the team goes to each classroom to talk with the teachers and see how they can help.

They then talk as a group and individually with the students.

At home, the American Academy of Pediatrics has plenty of resources to help parents and their children cope together.
