LORDSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police released dash camera footage of a chase that police said was started by a teenage mother who was found to have her two children in the car.
The video shows Lordstown Police Chief Brent Milhoan trying to approach the car at the Speed Check when it took off down Tod Avenue.
Police said speeds exceeded 100 miles per hour while other traffic was also on the road.
Officers called off the chase just seconds before the 17-year-old girl crashed through a guardrail, ramming into a parked car at Shadi’s Food Market in Warren Township.
Police said no one was hurt, including the teen’s 9-month-old and 2-year-old.
A 14-year-old boy who was reported missing from Columbus was also in the car.
“You had a number of people in the car, some small children, officers involved. You had pedestrians in the parking lot of Shadi’s, multiple vehicles passing on Tod, so it was a recipe for disaster, but fortunately, it ended with nobody getting hurt,” said Chief Milhoan.
Police say they initially tried pulling the teen over for speeding in a school zone.
On the video, the girl can be heard telling police that she didn’t stop because she had her two kids in the car and she knew that she didn’t have a valid driver’s license.
The 17-year-old is now facing numerous traffic and criminal charges.
