WATCH: Regional chamber says GM stopping production of Cruze ‘not surprising’

Local News

The president and CEO of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber said GM deciding to stop production of the Chevy Cruze at the Lordstown plant is “really not a surprise.”

“I think the timing was a little surprising, just because we’re rolling out of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, but it’s really not a surprise,” James Dignan said.

He said the plant has been under capacity and under-utilized for months now.

“I think there’s still some opportunity here and we want to make sure that GM understands that there is opportunity here, we want the workforce to understand there’s opportunity here and we want our community to know that there’s opportunity here,” Dignan said.

GM announced Monday that it will lay off up to 14,000 factory and white-collar workers in North America, putting five plants at risk for possible closure.
