Police said the 6-month-old fell more than 14 feet out of a second-story window and landed on the grass, which likely saved his life

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Warren police are investigating after a baby apparently fell out of a window and broke several bones Tuesday.

It happened at a home on Ogden Avenue.

Police said the 6-month-old fell more than 14 feet out of a second-story window and landed on the grass, which likely saved his life.

“We did go to the house, and do measurements, and took several pictures and it is very plausible how this could happen, the way the bed was set up. The bed was higher than the window sill,” said Warren Police Det. Nick Carney.

Akron Children’s Hospital reported the case, telling dispatchers the baby had a number of injuries, including a fractured skull, a brain bleed and an eye fracture.

“The injuries are consistent with the story. Is it true? We don’t know yet,” Carney said.

He was still in the hospital Thursday.

Trumbull County Children Services executive director Tim Schaffner said it’s a good idea to look at possible dangers to children any room poses. He said to keep climbable furniture away from windows and put in screens or other barriers to prevent falls.

Detectives said they’re still investigating and people could be charged.

“A child very easily could have rolled out of that window. Even though it’s an accident, there are still consequences to accidents,” Carney said.

The baby is doing well and isn’t expected to have permanent brain damage.
