WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A mom from Warren faces child endangering charges after police said her young children were locked outside of their apartment.

A man called police to the 3200 block of Dunstan Drive NW around 1 p.m. Sunday, reporting that he saw the two children under the age of 7 playing outside in the yard. He said they were soaking wet and were wearing minimal clothing.

The man said he questioned the children, who told them that they got locked out of the home and were cold, according to a police report. He put them in his truck to warm up and tried knocking on the door, but no one answered.

A neighbor fed the kids after they said they were hungry, according to police.

Police said they knocked on the apartment door for about 20 minutes until the children’s mother, 23-year-old Bethany Dibell, answered.

She was handcuffed after police said she tried to close the door on officers when asked to get her identification.

Officers reported that it looked like the children tried to make food in the kitchen, as there was food on the floor. Police also reported “poor conditions” at the apartment, according to a police report. Police did not specify what they considered poor conditions.

Dibell pleaded not guilty to the charges on Monday and posted bond. She was ordered to have no contact with the children without prior approval from Trumbull County Children Services.

She’s due in court again at 10:15 a.m. May 14.
