WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – As Christmas approaches, the Warren Family Mission is in need of brand new toys for ages 0-18 for their toy giveaway on Dec. 17.
With just four days until the giveaway, Santa’s helpers were busy organizing the toys inside the mission Monday morning.
The mission plans to help 340 registered families this year provide gifts for children on Christmas — 40 more than last year.
Organizers said they still need toys for teenagers and toys valued at $20 for kids of all ages.
“We’re four days away from the giveaway, we’re always behind the gun but one thing about the Mahoning Valley is once the need goes out, people show their generosity and always show up,” said Dominic Mararri with the mission.
Brand new, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Warren Family Mission on Tod Avenue or donations can be made online at www.warrenfamilymission.org and be designated toward toys.
All online donations will go toward buying toys for age groups that receive the least toy donations.
The mission is also in need of ham for this year’s Christmas meal. They expect to serve anywhere from 2,000 to 2,500 people in their cafeteria. It will be served in person with limited seating but delivery and to-go options are also available for those who call ahead.
Currently, they only have seven boneless hams out of the 300 it takes to provide the Christmas meal to those in need.
“We’re cutting it down to the wire but I wouldn’t expect anything less, I mean we’ve been in this position many, many times, we were just in this position with turkeys and our community always steps up, so we couldn’t be more thankful for the community,” Mararri said.
That event is planned for Dec. 22 from 12-4 p.m. and will be held in person.
